A BABY whose body was discovered in a Salford playground was “wrapped in pink cloth”, detectives have revealed.
Police believe the material could help identify the baby discovered by Ashtons Field in Little Hulton on November 20.

A police spokesman said: “At this stage we can confirm that the baby was wrapped in pink cloth and we hope to have further information following a Home Office post-mortem next week.

“A scene has been established and will remain for the next few days to ensure we can thoroughly search the area.”
The sad discovery of “Baby A” was made by a dog walker near Ashtons Field in Salford close to the M61 motorway bridge at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Greater Manchester Police still do not know the sex, age or ethnicity of the child, and the remains were found in a wooded area near the entrance to the park.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley added: “Our investigation is at an early stage and we do not know the background or circumstances that led to this baby being separated from its mum.
“We don’t know what pressures mum might have been under before giving birth or in the period afterwards, but our priority is to find answers and make sure mum is safe.
“We will do everything we can to help mom. Trained officers are ready to support her, regardless of the circumstances, contact us.
“I would like to thank the community and members of the public for their support and compassion. Their tribute and the information they have provided is invaluable and we are truly grateful for their support.
“We, like you, and the rest of the community want answers. There are so many different elements to this investigation, and in the coming days we will know more about the baby and the circumstances of the death. I want to assure you that we will release updates as soon as we can.”
Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood urged anyone with information about Baby A or the parents to come forward immediately.
Concerned locals left gifts of flowers and stuffed toys, including teddy bears and a snowman.
Among them were several distraught young mothers carrying their own children who visited the scene to pay their respects.
Michelle Eddison, 43, was walking her dog Apollo around the Ashton Fields area this morning.
Michelle said: “This area is very popular with dog walkers and children. It’s always busy during the day. We’ve walked the dog here many times.
“There would be no time to leave the child. This is a very busy road and the mother could really be from anywhere.”
