‘Barbie’ Passes ‘The Avengers’ at Domestic Box Office as It Continues to Break Records

Barbie the past danced away the Avengers at the local box office.

Barbie has surpassed the 2012 Marvel film as the 11th highest-grossing film at the domestic box office after taking in $626 million since its July theatrical release, according to Diversity. This is more than the Avengers‘623 million dollars.

In front of something Barbie are at the local box office Jurassic World ($653 million), Titanic ($674 million), Avengers: Infinity ($678 million), as well as Avatar: The Way of Water ($684 million). It stands at number one Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens ($936 million). None of these ticket sales are adjusted for inflation.

BarbieThe box office news comes after it became Warner Bros.’ the biggest film of all time after grossing $1.34 billion at the worldwide box office in August.

Warner Bros.’ the previous all-time hit was in 2011 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2which grossed $1.341 billion in theaters worldwide upon its release.

Barbie it also became the highest-grossing film of 2023 in August, surpassing Movie Super Mario Bros. This came after Greta Gerwig Barbie became Warner Bros.’ the highest-grossing domestic release ever.

Barbie stars many big names such as Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera and Issa Rae. The film follows Barbie (Robbie) and Ken (Gosling) as they navigate life in the real world, away from Barbie Earth.

“Of course, I’ve always known who Barbie is for,” Gerwig told PEOPLE ahead of time Barbieliberation. “And there’s a kind of collective memory that I wanted to tap into, something about: we invent things like dolls to explain to ourselves what it means to be human.”

“Part of me wondered if there was a way we could allow the doll to have that humanity as well,” she added. “Wouldn’t it be great if the queen of plastic got something real?”
