In a statement, Beeb said River City would come to the end of 2026.
The move was blamed for the fall of the audience assessment according to long series.
Hayley Valentine, Director, BBC Scotland said: “River City was a wonderful adventure and of course we will all be sad when we see it.
“The team did a great job and I know that they have some big plans for the finals next year. But as the viewing patterns are changing and competition is intensified, this is the right time to invest in the next generation of high -effect dramatic series from all over Scotland, which shows the narrative of storytelling across the UK.
“Our goal is to continue to grow Scotland on the global drama card-Slate of the Slate of World Production, which set the standard not only here, but also internationally.”
Located in a fictional Shieldinch community in Glasgow, River City was shot in Dumbarton.
The rent that the BBC holds for Dumbarton ends in September 2026.
The show said that the money used to produce River City would divert new shows.

Responding to River City’s ax, one fan said, “I’m not surprised by TBH, moving to short 3 series a year was not a good move. People lose interest when out of the air and do not bother to return to it when he returns.”

- Jonathan Creek: In the lead role of comedian Alan Davies, this series of comedy and drama follows the inventor of magical tricks, who often invite themselves in dealing with confusing killings. Aired from 1997 to 2016.
- Law and Order: Originally aired in 1978, this four -piece drama series speaks of the British judicial system. The stars include Peter Dean and Derek Martin.
- Life on Mars: A neglected science fiction police drama after a Manchester police officer who travels until 1973 after a car accident. Stars John Simm and Philip Glenister. Aired from 2006 to 2007.
- Luther: a series of criminal drama starring Idris Elba as DCI John Luther. Aired from 2010 to 2019, with a further film released in 2023.
- Shetland: a detective drama played by Douglas Henshall, Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell, showing the dark side of one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Premiered in 2013 and is in the air to this day.
- Officers: Located in the fictional northern city of Stanton, this recognized, provocative police drama Katy Cavanagh, Rob Dixon and John Henshaw. Aired from 1998 to 2001.
- Awakening the dead: with an acting line -up, including Trevor Eva, Sue Johnston and Will Johnson, this series follows these cold cases that reveals the secrets of sleep, but sometimes the past is best buried. Aired from 2000 to 2011.
- Wallander: In the lead roles of Sir Kenneth Branagh, Kurt Wallander is unable to discover the dark crimes he in charge of investigating, while Wallander’s job comes at the price of his family and relationship. Broadcast from 2008 to 2016.
