BBC Breakfast star Jon Kay addressed his no-show on Tuesday. In his Instagram Stories, the journalist revealed that he was sent to London for a day to film something for the show.
“A hell of a day filming in London… All will be revealed next week,” he wrote alongside a selfie taken in the city, adding a zip-up emoji and BBC Breakfast logo.

Jon, who became the main presenter last year, returned to the red sofa on Wednesday morning. The journalist usually co-hosts the show with colleague Sally Nugent for the first three days of the week, before handing over to Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt until Saturday.
Tuesday wasn’t the first time in months Jon was away from the sofa. Back in July, the 53-year-old took a well-deserved break from the show to spend time with his family. Taking to social media at the time, he told his followers: “I’m enjoying some extra sleep and a long-planned family holiday so no need to set the alarm tomorrow morning. Back on the red couch with my family for BBC Breakfast in Salford in two weeks .”

Jon isn’t the only host who has been absent from the show recently as Carol Kirkwood has been absent from her usual spot on the show since last week.

In her absence, Matt Taylor and Sarah Keith-Lucas have alternated in place of the Scottish star.
Carol’s absence comes just a month before she embarks on a four-day steam train journey around Scotland. Fans will join the 61-year-old as she travels through the epic scenery of the Scottish Highlands, starting at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and ending on the Atlantic shores next to Loch Nevis.

The trip also includes three boat rides, a castle visit and a trip on the Falkirk Wheel, and Carol will also give a talk about her love of Scotland and growing up in Morar. He will also touch on his career and his experience Strictly.
It’s an exciting time for Carol, who is preparing to walk down the aisle after getting engaged to her partner Steve Randall last year.

Describing the moment Steve got down on one knee during an exclusive interview with HELLO!, she said: “It was a beautiful, sunny day and we went on a picnic with ourselves, we were sitting by the river, watching the boats go by.. I turned to ask , “What’s wrong?” He got down on one knee and proposed to me. At first I thought he was joking, but he said, ‘No, no, I really mean it, will you marry me?’ I said, ‘Yes!! Of course!'”
Carol and Steve are yet to set a date for their big day, with the presenter telling The Mirror in August: “I want to get married again. We’re very happy and loved and we’re happy to be together, but we don’t have a wedding date yet.”
