BBC Breakfast viewers delighted as beloved presenter returns following break

Viewers of BBC Breakfast were delighted to see Carol Kirkwood back on their screens after a short hiatus from the programme.

The weather presenter, who has been off work for more than a week, returned on Monday morning to join presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay in the Media City studios.

Carol received a warm welcome from her colleagues. After Jon presented the weather forecast, Sally said, “Morning, Carol, welcome back!”

Carol replied, “Thanks Sal, it’s good to be back!”

The 61-year-old also took to Twitter, now X, to mark her return to the show. Carol often shares posts on her social media page in the morning, which makes her get up early BBC Breakfast.

At 5.22am Carol wrote: “Good morning”, adding two red heart emojis.

Her fans clearly missed waking up to Caroline’s weather forecast every morning and took to the comments section to welcome her back. One person wrote: “Welcome back Carol and good morning x,” while another added: “Good morning. Missed you!”

A third person tweeted: “Morning Carol, glad you’re back.”

  4. Jon Kay Newsreader and journalist takes over from Dan Walker following his departure in 2022. He previously worked as a correspondent for BBC News at Six covering major events such as the 2012 London Olympics and the 2015 General Election campaign.
  5. Carol KirkwoodCarol is the main weather forecaster and has been waking up the nation with weather forecasts on the BBC for 30 years.
  6. Nina WarhurstNina is the show’s chief business executive, having taken over from Steph McGovern in 2020. She often comes as host on the red sofa when the main hosts are away.

While she was away from the show, Carol no doubt enjoyed spending some time at home with her fiance Steve Randall.

Say HELLO! about the beautiful proposal in an exclusive interview, Carol explained that Steve surprised her. “It was a beautiful, sunny day and we went on a picnic with ourselves, we sat by the river and watched the boats go by,” she described. “I turned around to say, ‘What’s wrong?’ He got down on one knee and proposed to me. At first I thought he was joking, but he said, ‘No, no, I really mean it, will you marry me?’ I said, ‘Yes!! Of course!'”

Carol and Steve met when the weather star was in her 50s and were good friends before the relationship turned romantic.

“It was nice because it just happened,” she told Closer magazine. “None of us were looking for romance and there it is, just unfolding. It’s so beautiful. Who would have thought I’d be remarrying at this advanced age? I sure didn’t.”

Carol’s return comes just weeks before the star will embark on an exciting journey away from the show. The presenter will embark on a steam train journey through her native Scotland, starting at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, and ending on the shores of the Atlantic next to Loch Nevis.

Carol will be joined by fans on an excursion that includes a boat ride, a ride on The Falkirk Wheel and two cruises. Carol will also give an exclusive speech and is expected to join fans on the day of their trip.
