BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay made an embarrassing mistake on Monday’s morning show, in which he was corrected by colleague Sally Nugent.
Chatting about the first On the Strictly Come Dancing exit, a reporter accidentally called Les Dennis “Len” – watch the hilarious moment in the clip below and see Sally’s not-so-impressed reaction.

“If you haven’t watched last night’s Strictly Come Dancing yet, here are spoilers,” Jon warned viewers. “We’ll tell you who’s kicked out. So just close your ears and eyes for a few seconds.”
To which Sally said, “Les Dennis was the first to be eliminated from this year’s competition. This was his Samba with partner Nancy Xu. She couldn’t get him through the first round of eliminations. I honestly thought he would have been in it for a while.”

Speaking of such a high standard in this series, Jon added: “Some of them are too good. They’ll be like pros by week five… At least Len can have Saturday nights at home now.”

Noticing his mistake, Sally corrected him and joked, “Les.” Chuckling lightly, Jon remarked, “Yeah, I’ve got Lenny in my ear.”

- Jon Kay Newsreader and journalist takes over from Dan Walker following his departure in 2022. He previously worked as a correspondent for BBC News at Six covering major events such as the 2012 London Olympics and the 2015 General Election campaign.
- Carol KirkwoodCarol is the main weather forecaster and has been waking up the nation with weather forecasts on the BBC for 30 years.
- Nina WarhurstNina is the show’s chief business executive, having taken over from Steph McGovern in 2020. She often comes as host on the red sofa when the main hosts are away.
- Ben ThompsonBen is a co-host and regularly fills in for the main hosts when they are away from the red sofa. It can also be seen on BBC News.
- John WatsonJohn is a sports presenter and has worked for the BBC since 2012, providing viewers with all the latest sports news and stories.
Sunday night’s dance saw Les and dancer Nancy Xu in the bottom two with BBC presenter Nikita Kanda and Gorka Marquez. When co-host Tess Daly asked him about his time on the show, Les sweetly replied: “I had the best time, this woman was amazing, a great teacher, she really tested me. And I’m also as good as I could for you, I hope!

“That’s a lot [his fellow contestants] up there, I’ll miss you so much. I really appreciate and understand the judge’s point of view, thank you for giving me a 10 for fun. I hope I had fun, that’s why I came. Strictly is the best and the people who put this on, you’re all amazing!”
Nancy added: “It’s been a journey. It’s been such a short but sweet journey. There are a lot of challenges that we all know, but to see you (Lesu) improving yourself every day. I respect you so much. I just want to say thank you to the judges and all my friends. Thank you Strictly Come Dancing for all your support. Thank you Les.”
