BBC Breakfast looked a little different to usual on Tuesday morning as Sally Nugent was off and Jon Kay was not in the studio.
Jon swapped Salford’s Media City for Langstone Harbor in Hampshire for a special edition of the programme, exploring the problem of sewage pollution along the coast and in our waterways.

He was joined by forecaster Carol Kirkwood, who reported from the harbor on the latest weather forecast.
Meanwhile, relief anchors Ben Boulos and Tina Daheley held down the fort in the main studio, updating viewers on the latest news headlines.
Jon presented a special program on wastewater pollution
Taking to Instagram ahead of Tuesday’s performance, Jon posted a stunning shot of the sun rising over the harbour. Sharing details of the day’s programme, he captioned it: “Good morning from Langstone Harbor in #Portsmouth for a special BBC Breakfast program on sewage and water pollution. We’ll be speaking to water companies, politicians, campaigners and local people.”
Viewers of the show were somewhat divided over the subject of the special, with some complaining that it was not suitable for breakfast. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: “Whose idea was it to do a full feature on sewage at breakfast time? Not the nicest thing to do when you’re having breakfast,” while another added: “@BBCBreakfast How to turn viewers off #BBCBreakfast . .. talk about sewage! Bleurgh!”

Worth a watch,” while another added: “Good morning @jonkay01 and welcome to Pompeii. Thank you for pointing out how much raw sewage is illegally pumped into our seas.”

Although the reason for Sally’s absence is unknown, it is possible that she took the day off for her son’s first day at school after the summer holidays.
Sally recently returned to the UK from a short holiday in San Sebastián, Spain. The TV star, who was missing from the Wednesday program last week, took to Instagram on Sunday to share a series of snaps from her trip, including a stunning beach selfie.
“No more prawns in San Sebastián,” she wrote in the caption. “I think we’ve eaten them all. Back on the @bbcbreakfast sofa tomorrow from 6. Join us if you can x.”
