And John Altman, who played as Nasty Nick Cotton, appeared on Radio 4 to think about his memories from Set.

In an interview with Sarah Montague about working with the end of June, Brown, who played Dot Cotton, said: “During the early days, it was really flexible.

“You didn’t have to ask for permission to have a cigarette. You could do it. June and I improvised …

“We knew our characters so well. We wouldn’t change him drastically. We would put words or lines here and there to make him comic. Just to revive him a little.”

John first appeared on soap in 1985 and was last seen in Walford in 2015.

And he said that these days there are different recording compared to the 80s, claiming that Eastenders chiefs once changed racial small to the script while taking.

Repeating the word, Nick said, “I suppose I can say that in the air.”

But Sarah said, “No, I don’t think we can [say that]. “

John insisted that “people unfortunately still say that today,” but she warned, “They don’t.”

Sarah later said, “Can I apologize. It was not appropriate in the old days, and that was not appropriate now, for what John Altman said.”
