BBC Radio 1 legend Andy Peebles dies suddenly aged 76 as devastated colleagues pay tribute to ‘amazing broadcaster’

Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Andy Peebles, the latest interviewer John Lennon, died at the age of 76, his family confirmed.

Since then, colleagues and friends have given emotional honor of the “amazing emitter”, including Mike Reada, who said he was “devastated” for passing his friend.

He wrote: “It is relaxed to hear the news of our Chuma Andy Peebles. He intended to join us in Heritage. We joined Radio they together. We knew his music and inside.

“Raise the baton and enjoy a long vacation in the pavilion. We recently lunch with DLT & Adrian Juste. Great inings.”

Tony Blackburn also gave emotional honor to his “beautiful” friend, whom he called “excellent DJ”.

He said, “I’m so sorry to hear that my colleague DJ from Radio 1 when I was there Andy Peebles passed away. He was a beautiful man and a great emiterion, very sad news. Rip Andy.”

In the meantime, Geoff Baker added: “Hi, earlier today, I found out about the passing of a very old friend and excellent DJ.

“His knowledge of the only music was second, and his 4 years at Piccadilly and 13 years on Radio 1 gave him on nations of music fans!

“Unfortunately, Andy Peebles, completely unexpectedly died in a dream.

“After talking to him yesterday, when he was completely fine, his wife Ann called me with tragic news today, I couldn’t believe it!

“For those who knew him well, Andy was not only an encyclopedia on music, but also knew incredible about sports and enjoyed the crisis on several occasions for the BBC.

“So, all I can say is that unfortunately your many friends will miss you and I would like to conduct condolences to his dear wife Ann.

Rip Andy Peebles. God bless you, your old friend Geoff Baker. “

Shaun Tilley, another colleague DJ, also referred to his memories with the late television shows, saying that he had talked to him just two days ago.

He said, “I am extremely devastated that my great friend Andy Peebles passed away so suddenly and unexpected!

“We only talked 2 days ago and were so excited about our plans to return to the radio, hosting his beloved mental train with me that produce it every week.

“I just talked to Ann his lovely wife, but there was so few words of comfort. Of all my friends who left us recently, this one hurt me so much.

“He was one of the giants of our industry, a versatile personified, he could have done anything in the air and all at the highest level – all the time!

Friend and Radio CEO John Simmons added: “So sad to hear the news of Andy Peebles.

“I will miss our long conversations about football and mental music, of which he was far more famous. Tonight there will be a quiet storm in the sky. Rip Andy.”

Andy started working as a club DJ in the 1960s before joining the Piccadilly Local Station worked in Manchester.

He then earned a job on the BBC Radio 1 in the 1970s, hosted daily programs and hosted cells like my first twelve and Soul train, along with the top of Pops.

Andy left the BBC in the 1990s and went to the global classic Gold Radio Station.

One of his career highlights involves an interview with Legend of Beatles John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono, who aired just a few days before the singer was killed in New York.

He also had leftovers on Manchester’s Smooth FM -UI London 102.2 Jazz FM, and was introduced at the Hall of Fame Radio Academy of 2011.
