Blockey was cast as Robert Snell in the long-running soap opera in 1986.

In his role, he played the husband of the handyman of the village hustler Lynda Snell, who is recognized as one of the most annoying characters in the series.

He originally auditioned for the role of a doctor in a soap opera, but was told he didn’t sound like one, so he passed on the role of Snell instead.

He combined radio work with his duties as a doctor – having studied medicine before trying his hand at acting.

While working in this role, he worked as an assistant in hospitals before becoming a GP in 1993 at a surgery in Dorking, Surrey.

Most of his patients seemed unaware of his radio persona as Master Robert.

The father-of-two left his £1.1 million estate to wife Christine, whom he married in 1987.
