BBC star back on TV after being kept off air for more than year

MARTINE Croxall has returned to BBC News after launching legal action against the corporation.

The journalist, 55, claims she was prevented from broadcasting for a year after she was rejected for the role of main presenter.

Announcing her return, Croxall posted on Xu: “Are you ready for this? Back on BBC News at 11am BST.”

The presenter, who has worked for the BBC since October 1991, also posted a video of herself in the studio saying: “Where have we left off?”

Croxall spent almost two weeks out of the 2022 program amid claims she showed bias when Boris Johnson withdrew from the Tory leadership contest.

She then joined fellow journalists Kasia Madera, Karin Giannone and Annita McVeigh to accuse the corporation of “fraudulent recruitment” for top anchor roles following the merger of the BBC News and World News channels.

Madera, who returned earlier this month, posted on X: “Nice to see my friend @MartineBBC back on @BBCNews.”

Giannone called it a “treat” and wrote: “As soon as the leg heals, I’ll be there too.”

Earlier this month, the four journalists were seen together at a preliminary hearing for their legal action at London’s Central Employment Court.

The women allege discrimination based on age, gender and salary, and claim to have suffered victimization, harassment and damage to their reputation.

It is believed that the BBC’s position is that it complied with equal pay legislation, applied a rigorous and fair recruitment process and that all managers carried out the process correctly.
