Doctor Strange in the Mad Multiverse Also very honored is the birth of a new ally: America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a teenager of incredible strength who is sure to come in handy throughout the film. rant . screen Talk to Wong and Gomez about working with director Sam Raimi and what their characters will look like in the new MCU movie.

rant screen: we are crazy multiverse. Oh, teach me a unique skill! [They both demonstrate.] That’s it?

Benedict King: Yes, I watch Kate Bush a lot.

Xochitl, welcome to the MCU. How would you describe this feeling?

Xochitl Gomez: Okay, I feel a bit overwhelmed. You can not miss it. But it was fun, and Benny Wong was there. Great partner.

Benedict Wong: Isn’t it wonderful? She was 14 years old then. Just turned 16 years old.

I just turned 16. Are you crazy?

Benedict Wong: I mean, the pressure of making such a blockbuster? Full credit to you.

Xochitl Gomez: Interesting!

We watched the first 20 minutes and I have to say, you blew me away.

Xochitl Gomez: Oh, thanks. Great isn’t it? The first 20 minutes.

It really makes you fall in.

Xochitl Gomez: Just “Vroom!”

Benedict Wong: I think you’re completely successful.

What’s the best advice you’ve received from other actors about joining the MCU?

Xochitl Gomez: Elizabeth Olsen, she gave me great advice. She said don’t hesitate to pitch ideas to Marvel, or directly introduce your character. And what Marvel really means is when they need your advice or any notes or whatever.

I was like, “Okay…” I did it! I followed the advice and it really made sense to actually see some of the notes I was given actually happen. And then we would do it in a scene and be like, “Wow,” especially at my age. Just, “wow”.

Can you share anything about her personality?

Xochitl Gomez: I think this might have something to do with vandals.

I must say, Wong is employee of the year every year. He always cleans up Doctor Strange’s mess; he is always there to come and help. I just love him so much.

Benedict Wong: Yeah, he’s a soul cleaner, isn’t he?

That’s right, we’ve gone from this pointless casual librarian in the middle of a break to the pointless Supreme Sorcerer. I find the combination with Wong and Strange really interesting. He was always trying to calm the stubborn Strange with all the mistakes he kept making.

It’s just a giant snowball effect of everything he does.

Throughout the MCU, Wong has been involved in a lot of things. Where does this rank in terms of key moments in the MCU? What impact will this movie have?

Benedict Wong: I think it was a great climax for Wong. We’ve seen him stuck here, sedentary in the library, and now he’s almost moved out of the library. We’ve seen him fight – I can’t say – in the Shang-Chi movie, so he’s clearly training.

Everything has come to this point; he has a greater responsibility on his shoulders.

Xochitl, how would you describe your first day on set?

Xochitl Gomez: My first day on set? I remember being very nervous. I said, “God, this is crazy.” But then it’s like, the second I do the first always [nerve-wracking]. And after the first time, I said, “I see. You’re fine.”

Benedict Wong: You just got into it and it just keeps getting stronger.

Xochitl Gomez: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

There are also cosplayers and Halloween costumes, all of which must feel really special.

Xochitl Gomez: Yes. I mean, I’ve seen it… I have my action figures. I take it with me everywhere I go. Just because it’s crazy, I’m an action figure. And then, of course, there are the jackets. In stores now. This is crazy!

How would you describe working with Sam Raimi? He is such an icon.

Benedict Wong: That’s right. He’s great. He is a legend in both genres, horror and superhero. I mean, the original OG of the Marvel Universe contains all the Spider-Man movies. Yes, he was great on set.

Xochitl Gomez: I have to say he’s absolutely adorable. I just want to make him happy. It’s cute when he sits on the edge of the chair and says “Cut! Cut now!” When he got the picture he wanted, he went to the edge of his chair.
