Beth Ailes (Elizabeth Ailes) News
After Tucker Carlson was unexpectedly fired by Fox News last month shortly after the conservative network settled its billion-dollar lawsuit with the Dominion Voting Systems, the late Roger Ailes’ wife made a public attack on Rupert Murdoch.
Rupert Murdoch chose Ailes to lead Fox News when it first began broadcasting in 1996. Ailes has fallen from favour two decades later after being forced to resign in 2016 as a result of many allegations of sexual harassment.
Elizabeth Ailes tweeted “Happy Heavenly Birthday Roger Ailes,” congratulating her late husband, who passed away at the age of 77, one year after his departure from the network.
She penned the statement weeks after Carlson and Fox News split up as the network agreed to pay Dominion $787.5 million to settle a defamation lawsuit over election lies boosted by the channel’s personalities. “It took you 20 years to build Fox News into the powerhouse that it was and only 6 years for the Murdochs to wreak havoc,” she wrote.
“Rupert believed he could perform your duties. Such a joke. He is financially secure, but he will never match your brilliance. RIP.”
Ailes supervised Fox News’ rapid ascent over his two decades in charge; within six years of its debut, Fox News had become the most popular cable channel in the nation.
Under his leadership, Fox – despite its ‘Fair and Balanced’ title – evolved into a loud, divisive forum for conservative voices and causes, one that all but rejected the idea that news had to be delivered in a balanced manner. Republicans adore the network, which evolved into a venue for prominent conservative individuals to break news.
But Ailes’ 20 years as network president were marred by scandal. Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News presenter, said he had harassed her sexually in a lawsuit. Many additional women, including Megyn Kelly, one of the network’s most well-known female anchors who later left the network for NBC, made comparable charges.
He had stated at the time. “This is a retaliatory suit for the network’s decision not to renew her contract, which was due to the fact that her disappointingly low ratings were dragging down the afternoon lineup,” he had said.
Ms. Ailes told the Daily Beast that “karma is a b****”. She claimed that none of the problems, such as the Dominion lawsuit and the dismissal of Carlson, would have occurred.
