Bill Clinton Admitted to D.C. Hospital with Fever, Remains in ‘Good Spirits’

Former United States President Bill Clinton has been admitted to a hospital in Washington, DC, after suffering from a fever.

In a statement on Monday X, December 23, Angel Ureña, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, 78, said he was “admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital for testing and observation after developing a fever.”

A source told NBC News that the current situation is “not an emergency.”

“The former president will be fine,” the insider continued. “He developed a fever and wanted to be examined. He is awake and alert.”

Ureña also told CNN that Clinton is “doing well,” adding, “She remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care she is receiving.”

According to media reports, Ureña said Clinton was expected to be home for Christmas.

During an appearance on November 25 Living with Kelly and MarkBill said that his role as former President of the United States sometimes takes a backseat to his other important title.

“It depends on the day. Some days he’s the least powerful. But he’s got the longest cool list,” Bill joked with Kelly Ripa, 54, about his “powerful position” being the “Pop-Pop of the family.”

Bill is grandfather to daughter Chelsea Clinton’s three children: Charlotte, 10, Aidan, 8, and Jasper, 5.

When Mark Consuelos, 53, asked the politician how he came up with the nickname, Bill explained that it’s a nickname that’s been in their family for a while: “That’s what Chelsea used to call Hillary’s dad. And you know, we’re good together. It’s a good job.”

In 2021, Bill told PEOPLE that his Christmas plans usually involve him and Hillary getting together to visit Chelsea’s family.

“We always go down on Christmas Eve, sleep over and celebrate Christmas with them,” he said then. “And I think it’s the right thing to do, intergenerationally. And then we usually go to the train exhibit at the Bronx Zoo. That’s great.”
