A source said: “The relationship ran its course.”
Former Doctor Who star Billie was previously married to DJ Chris Evans, who is 17 years her senior, and actor-turned-political activist Laurence Fox, 45, with whom she has two sons.
A source said Billie and Johnny split last year, adding: βObviously it’s very sad that the couple have gone their separate ways.
βBut the relationship ran its course and they decided they would be better off separated.
βLike many couples, the isolation was quite difficult for them, so they had time to really think about what they wanted their future to look like.
βThey will always cherish the time they spent together and have many fond memories.
“They are now concentrating on co-parenting their daughter and their separate careers.”
‘Her career is progressing’
Last week, pictures were released of the award-winning Billie in her latest role β for Netflix’s Scoop, out this spring.
Billie plays Sam McAlister, the television producer who secured Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview in 2019.
Meanwhile, Newcastle-born Johnny, who has spent time in LA writing films for Netflix and TV shows, has been touring the UK with his band Tribes.

The source continued: βJohnny has thrown himself back into music, while Billie’s acting career is going from strength to strength.
“Everyone is very mature about it and making the transition as smooth as possible.”
In the past, Billie has admitted that she’s had troubled relationships that inspired her work, while Johnny has spoken of how “terrible” she is.
Billie’s 2019 film Rare Beasts, which she wrote, directed, and starred in, features an obnoxious male character that some have suggested is based on her Fox ex.
In an interview in 2021, she denied this. But Billie, who also played an uptight celebrity in comedy drama series I Hate Suzie, added: βI know about dysfunctional relationships. I know roughly what it costs to be a woman.
βSo I can sit comfortably in all of these things and say, yes, all of these experiences have influenced my work.
“But it wasn’t that I was her, but that it was him.” In 2016, she and Johnny met at the Boogaloo pub in Highgate, North London.

Speaking about the relationship, Johnny said in 2019: βIt was a great romance. If you meet someone like that, they will blow you away. This is what I wanted to be with. He inspires me every day.
βI can’t stress enough how talented I think she is.
βBefore I was a bit lost, but seeing what he can achieve in a day, how many meetings he holds and how he is progressing in life, it inspires me to do more.
βShe doesn’t wait to see if things happen, she goes out and gets them. That’s why it’s so successful. It’s awe-inspiring. She is ambitious, we both are.”
Johnny featured a heavily pregnant Billie cradling her baby on the cover of his 2019 solo album, Next Episode Starts in 15 Seconds.
He told how his partner improved his life “in so many ways”.

She challenged me
The singer said: βShe challenged me. She kept asking me questions like, ‘What’s your five-year plan?
“Where are you headed musically?” And telling me that I have to be responsible for everything I’ve done.
βI felt my head was stuck thinking ‘next job, next tour’ and I wanted to keep talking to her.
“Fortunately, she felt the same way about me. She has made my life better in so many ways and I just feel like now I know who I am, I know what I can do, I know where I want to be. And that’s with her.”
Raised in Swindon, Billie attended the Sylvia Young Theater School in London and landed a place on ITV’s children’s show Scratchy & Co.
At the age of 14, she signed a record deal and went on tour. Billie then rose to fame at the age of 15 when she became the youngest artist to debut at number one in the UK singles chart with the 1998 hit Since We Want To.
Her success and the hectic schedule that came with it led to mental health struggles and an eating disorder.
She once admitted that she collapsed after living for days on “only Diet Coke and Marlboro Lights.”
Billie dated Ritchie Neville of boyband 5ive and then met Evans on his C4 TFI Friday show in 2000.

He wooed her with a Β£100,000 Ferrari, full of roses, despite the fact that she couldn’t drive.
Just five months later, Billie, then 18, and Evans, 35, were married in Las Vegas.
The couple tied the knot in a top-secret sunset ceremony at the Little Church of the West chapel – where Elvis Presley married Priscilla in 1967 – after chartering a private jet.
They were joined by a small group of friends, including TV presenter Danny Baker, 66, who was best man.
Billie and Chris eventually retired from the public eye to travel the world.
‘We spent a lot of time drinking’
She recalled: “I felt like I was reliving my college years or something – we spent a lot of time traveling and drinking, meeting people I wouldn’t have had access to otherwise.”
They parted amicably after three years.
She later said: βI loved that time. I learned so much. I really needed it, after the experiences I had had up to that point.
“And I felt like I had found a real friend.
βI guess I met someone who experienced it [fame] 20 years, at that level, was very stimulating.
“And very drunk too, which I needed.”
