Billy Miller’s Mother Reflects on His ‘Valiant’ Struggle Against ‘Bipolar Depression’ Before Actor’s Death at 43

Billy Miller’s family have spoken out following the soap actor’s untimely death.

In a statement issued to Soap opera summaryBilly’s mum Patricia Miller expressed her gratitude for the support she has received since her son’s death and shared that Billy had “given his life” after a “long, hard and courageous battle with bipolar depression”.

“I want to personally thank the many fans and personal friends for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers and condolences that have been sent to me and my family on the devastating death of my beautiful son BJ — Billy Miller,” she said. “He fought a long and courageous battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease.”

“He loved his family, his friends and his fans, but in the end the disease won the battle and he surrendered his life,” she continued. “The other causes of death given are not true. I wish they were, but they just aren’t.”

– We all loved him very much and are desperately trying to cope with the loss – Patricia concluded. “I won’t have anything more to say. Thank you for your love and support.”

Billy Miller, soap star known for ‘The Young and the Restless’ and ‘General Hospital’, has died at 43.

Miller, who would have turned 44 shortly after his death, died on Friday, September 15 in Texas. His manager told PEOPLE General Hospital and Young and restless the star was “struggling with manic depression when he died.”

The soap opera star’s career has begun All My Children in 2007. His time as Billy Abbott on Young and restless led to three Daytime Emmy Award wins for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2010 and 2013, as well as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2014.

He gave up the role in 2014.

Next up for Miller was General Hospital, where he played Jason Morgan for two years while Steve Burton, the character’s previous portrayal, was off-screen. He finished his GH runs as Jason’s twin brother Drew Cain.

Miller received an outpouring of tributes from his former colleagues after news of his death broke.

One read: “My heart is with him, and all who love him – he is loved by many.” ❤️ Warm, kind, incredibly talented .. a big hug for the daily family. Rest in peace and happy birthday in heaven Billy,” wrote Risa Dorken, his ex GH costar, on X (formerly known as Twitter.)
