Black & Iconic: Style Gods will premiere on BET on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 9:00 p.m. ET. Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award-winning actor/singer Billy Porter will host a groundbreaking new documentary series about BET. Lynne Robinson directed the series produced by Stanley Nelson and Firelight Productions as part of the social impact campaign “Content for Change” created to mark Black History Month. Black & Iconic: Style Gods will examine how racism and high fashion have affected people of color on a systemic level, and how these effects have persisted over time.
Black & Iconic: Style Gods, according to BET Network, will be an eight-hour, four-part documentary series that celebrates black pioneers, idols, and cultural activists, as well as the contributions of them for fashion, music, cinema and dance.

Billy Porter is the host of Black & Iconic: Style Gods.
Billy Porter, an award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated actor, director, producer, musician and activist, will host and executive produce the new BET documentary series Black & Iconic: Style Gods. The series will examine the past achievements of the black community in many areas, as well as the impact of black cultural innovators. Billy Porter, 53, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1969. The presenter of The Black & Iconic: Style Gods began his stage career in Miss Saigon in 1991. In the 1994 revival of Grease, he played a teenage angel. When he returned to New York in 2010, he was cast as Belize in the New York Signature Theater Company’s 20th anniversary production of Tony Kushner’s two-part epic, Angels of America . Shuffle Along, in which he starred alongside Audra McDonald, was released in 2016.
On January 14, 2017, Porter married co-owner Adam Smith, a native of Ken, after a brief engagement. The couple married in a brief ceremony at a friend’s apartment in Manhattan. In 2009, a mutual friend met them for dinner. They dated for a year before breaking up and getting back together in 2015.
The presenter of Black & Iconic: Style Gods makes her directorial debut in July 2022 with Ximena Garcia Lecuona’s coming-of-age drama Everything Is Possible. Porter has also written his first book, Unprotected, which will be published by Abrams Press in October 2021. Stranger Things, Porter’s latest song, is made available through his publishing deal with Island. Records (UK) and Republic Records (USA). The Black & Iconic: Style Gods host received a second Tony Award for “Best Musical” in 2022, producing A Strange Loop.

BET Network Black & Iconic: Style Gods will premiere on Saturday, February 18, 2023, in honor of Black History Month. The video highlights the past achievements of people of color in many fields, as well as the impact of the contributions of black culture. Black & Iconic: Style Gods was developed for BET by executive producers Connie Orlando and Jason Samuels, with senior supervising producer Steven Ramey.
