According to Blaine Lacher’s obituary, the former hockey player died suddenly on January 29. The former Bruins player avoided the limelight for years. Blaine Lacher, a standout athlete at Lake Superior State, won the NCAA championship in 1992. A year later, he established an all-time hitting streak of 375:01 minutes. Lacher’s college hockey record was 49-13-7 over three years. Despite his college, no NHL club chose him. But in 1994, the Boston Bruins considered taking a gamble on him. The little one surprised everyone.
He had an excellent debut season, finishing 19-11-2. But he couldn’t last a spell in his second year. The Bruins and Lacher struggled early in his second season, and Lacher was sent to play for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. He played nine games with the Providence Bruins before being sent to the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League. In 1996, Boston bought out his contract and Lacher joined the Grand Rapids Griffins. According to a 2013 story, Lacher returned to Medicine Hat and worked for Goodyear, making tires. Additionally, he was said to be involved in Medicine Hat’s minor hockey scene.

The announcement also stated that a private family gathering will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel. Blaine may have already been married but divorced as his wife’s name is not mentioned anywhere. Sandra Lacher, Blaine’s mother, died on November 5, 2013 at the age of 70. His father, Irwin, and mother, Sandra, had been married for 48 years when she died.
Blaine has two sisters: Lana and Faye Lacher. Faye Lacher is a Maritime Travel branch manager and corporate consultant and a graduate of Medicine Hat College. Faye has not made any posts on her Facebook account regarding her brother’s death. She was last active on the same day he died, and her last post was about her business, Maritime Travel.
Faye has two children, Jordan and Nolan, and her daughter Jordan graduated from the University of Alberta last year. Blaine’s other sister, Lana, graduated from Medicine Hat College but does not use social media. Blaine’s son, Quin, was previously claimed to have followed in his father’s footsteps by playing hockey for the Medicine Hat Hounds in the SCAHL U18 League.
