Following the company’s announcement that it will cut 7,000 employees and cut costs by $5.5 billion as part of a broader reorganization, Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger appeared Thursday on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street.”
Iger, who took over as Disney chief executive in November, said Thursday he has no intention of holding the job for more than two years.
Iger told CNBC’s David Faber on Thursday: “Well, my plan is to stay here for two years, that’s what my contract says, that was my agreement with management and that’s what I want.”
Iger recognized that in addition to helping the board “succeed,” he had a lot to accomplish in that short amount of time. Last year, the board fired CEO Bob Chapek. He was Iger’s chosen replacement.
“When we decided to vote for Bob [Chapek] In 2020, we believed that we had made the right decision. Iger declined to elaborate on the reason for the sudden resignation, saying the board decided in November that he was not an ideal candidate for the job.
Disney’s broadcast plan and making the company profitable are at the top of the list, Iger said Thursday. In his words, streaming is “the future”.

Iger said Thursday that “we could have been poisoned by our own underground growth,” referring to Disney+’s $6.99 starting price.
