Huw Ware, a darts official, also released a statement saying: “Dad to hear about the death of Bob Potter. He tried very hard and was always kind. His location is well known and he was instrumental in the success of the BDO World Championship. REST IN PEACE.” Potter purchased what is now Lakeside Country Club in 1972 when it was still known as “Wharfenden House.” The local venue was later expanded to hold 1,000 people, initially as a venue for comedians and musicians.
But over time, it became one of the most recognizable dart centers in the world and has remained so for over 30 years. Darts’ governing body issued a statement saying: “The World Darts Federation is deeply saddened to learn that Bob Potter OBE passed away today at the age of 94.”
