Biography of Bob Woodward

Bob Woodward was born on March 26, 1943, in Geneva, Illinois, to Jane (formerly Upshur) and Alfred Eno Woodward II. His father was an attorney who rose to become Chief Judge of the 18th Judicial District Court. When he was 12 years old, his parents divorced, and he, his sister and brother were raised by his father, who later remarried.

Bob Woodward Education and early career

In terms of education, he attended Yale College on a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship, where he majored in history and English literature. In 1965, he graduated and began a five-year tour of duty in the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Wright as one of two officers in charge of moving or handling the nuclear launch codes that Wright carried in his NECPA capacity. He also served as Communications Officer aboard the USS Fox under Admiral Robert O. Welander.

In August 1970, he was discharged as a lieutenant and began attending graduate school in Shakespeare and international relations at George Washington University. He worked for the Montgomery Sentinel for a year before being hired as a reporter by The Washington Post in 1971.

In 1996, Bob Woodward and Brian Duffy published a story claiming that a US Department of Justice investigation into fundraising activities revealed that Chinese agents had attempted to direct contributions from foreign sources to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) prior to the 1996 presidential campaign.

He also wrote four books about the presidency of former US President George W. Bush. “Bush at War” (2002), “Plan of Attack” (2004), “The State of Denial” (2006) and “The War Within: The Secret History of the White House” are the titles of these books.

On February 22, 2013, he published a column in The Washington Post criticizing the administration of former US President Barack Obama for claims in 2012 and 2013 that Republicans in Congress had proposed sequestering the United States’ federal budget.
