Bobbie Jean Carter, sister of Aaron Carter and Nick Carter, has died, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE. She was 41 years old.

Bobbie Jean died Saturday morning in Florida, TMZ reported, citing her mother, Jane Carter. “I am in shock to learn of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean, and it will take time for me to understand the horrible reality of this happening for the third time,” Jane told the paper, referring to Bobbie Jean’s death. like those of Aaron, who died at age 34 in November 2022, and Leslie Carter, who died at age 25 in January 2012.

“When I can think clearly I will release a fuller statement, but until then I would ask that you leave me alone to grieve,” she continued.

Jane added: “[H]However deeply a parent feels the loss of a child, the suffering of a small child due to the loss of a parent must be much greater. That’s why I would like to ask those who are sympathetic to pray for my precious eight-year-old granddaughter Bella, who previously lost her father, and now she has also lost her mother.”

Sources close to the Carters told PEOPLE that the family believes Bobbie Jean died after going into cardiac arrest, though further details about what led to her death remain unclear.

According to TMZ, she worked as a wardrobe and makeup artist for Aaron’s tours during the early 2000s, after he rose to fame with a successful music career.
