Bobby Berk Announces Season 8 of Queer Eye Will Be His Last: ‘I Could Not Be More Grateful’

Bobby Berk says goodbye to A strange eye.

The decor guru of the Netflix series wrote a heartfelt letter to “the A strange eye A community that has become my family” on Monday when he announced that he will leave the series after Season 8, which is set to premiere on January 24.

“The love I’ve received from you over the last 6 years has been absolutely surreal,” he wrote alongside a series of photos with his co-stars and past heroes of the series. “You pitched in and were devoted fans and together we were able to share the healing powers of design. I learned all about kindness, love and acceptance from you and it changed my life for the better. The way you embraced me and accepted me for who I am is something I will truly carry with me for the rest of my life.”

Berk joins Karam Brown, Tan France, Antonio Porowski and Jonathan Van Ness as newcomers A strange eye Fab Five when the reboot premiered in 2018. In his post on Monday, the 42-year-old interior designer thanked longtime fans of the show for their support.

“During these years, you die-hard fans A strange eyeyou’ve all shared so many stories with me about how the show has touched your lives and I couldn’t be more grateful to each of you for being brave enough to share your experiences,” he said.

He also praised the show’s “wonderful, loving, amazing and brave” heroes, adding: “It’s because of you that I’ve kept going all these years and each one of you has changed me for the better. I am very proud of all of you! Being able to help you find the best version of yourself is something I have never taken for granted and never will.”

Berk then officially confirmed his departure from the series: “It is with a heavy heart that I announce that season 8 will be my last season on A strange eye. It was not an easy decision to be at peace, but a necessary one. Although my journey with A strange eye is over, my journey with you is not. You’ll be seeing more of me very soon.”

He concluded: “I love you all very much and I will meet you all in Nola for one last season. #foreverthefab5”

Berk’s announcement comes after Netflix confirmed to PEOPLE A strange eye has been renewed for a ninth season that will take place in Las Vegas.

“We appreciate the heart and dedication of Bobby Berk A strange eye over eight incredible seasons,” ITV Entertainment, Scout Productions and Netflix said in a statement to PEOPLE. “He will always be a member of the Fab Five family and we wish him the best.”

His colleagues shared their support for Berk in the comments section of his Instagram post. Porowski, 39, wrote, “#foreverthefab5 indeed, and don’t forget it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” and Brown, 43, added, “@bobby we are #ForeverTheFab5 | no matter. I’m about to become Netflix’s door and emails telling them you can’t leave! Who’s coming with me? 😢😍 I love you!”

Brown also shared his tribute to Berk on social media alongside a series of photos of the star.

“With today’s publication date of the new season (8) of A strange eye… Heartbroken that season 8 will be the last on @bobby A strange eye! He is magic in what he designs and how he makes us all feel. #ForeverTheFab5,” he wrote.

Van Ness, 36, also reacted to the news on Instagram, writing: “One of a kind and such a star. Love you Bobby.”
