Body Found of 17-Year-Old Swimmer Who Got Caught in Florida Rip Current: ‘He Was Full of Sunshine’

The body of a 17-year-old boy who went missing while swimming at Jensen Beach in Florida on Monday has been found, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Local news outlet WESH reported that Nick Alincy had gone for an “early morning swim” on Monday after taking pictures with his girlfriend on the beach when he was caught in a riptide and swept out to sea. After days of Marines, Air Force, dive teams, patrol deputies and detectives searching for the missing teenager, the sheriff’s office offered an update on its Facebook page.

“Nick’s body has been located about five miles south of where he was last seen in the water yesterday morning. We express our deepest condolences to his loved ones,” the post said.

We would like to thank all of our first responder partners, the Martin County Fire Department, the US Coast Guard, the Jupiter Island Police Department, the FWC and all of the private vessel operators and citizens who worked tirelessly with the MCSO to help locate Nick and close it to your loved ones,” the post continued.

Alincy was a student at St. Lucie West Centennial and a member of the PSL Hurricanes soccer club, according to West Palm Beach’s WPTV. On Tuesday, his coach spoke to the media to remember the late player.

Nick was always smiling, Ardeljan said. “He lit up the field whenever he stepped on it, he never left without a hug and he snapped his fingers after a hug, and that was Nick. He was full of sunshine.”

In addition to being a member of the league as a child, Alincy stayed and became the coach of the children’s recreational team, about which Ardeljan told WPTV he exemplified Alincyne’s “love of children.”

Even when he wasn’t training, he was helping, Ardeljan said.

The football club had planned a vigil for Tuesday night to “celebrate” Alincy’s life, according to a Facebook post.

“Nick was a valued member of our football family and we believe it is crucial to come together to honor his memory and support his family and friends at this difficult time,” the statement read.

The statement continued: “In times like these, the strength of our community shines and together we can provide comfort and support to those who need it most. Thank you for your understanding, compassion and support. We hope to see you at the vigil tonight as we remember Nick and the impact he had on all of our lives.”
