On January 11, 2017, he played his first international match for Croatia against Chile. He was included in Croatia’s preliminary squad of 32 players for the World Cup in May 2018, however, he did not make it to the final 23.
He scored his first goal for his country on March 21, 2019 in a 2-1 win against Azerbaijan in a home qualifying match for Euro 2020. By the end of the qualifiers, he was one of the first 11 of the national team.
