Boys4Eva! Watch Bridgerton Star Luke Newton Body Roll with Former Boy Band South4

Long before he was dancing the ballrooms of Netflix BridgertonLuke Newton has introduced some completely different dance moves as a new pop star with his boy band South4.

Twelve years ago, Newton was an 18-year-old graduate of the BRIT School, a performing and creative arts school in London, where he formed a pop quartet with colleagues Oli Evans, Joel Baylis and Henry Tredinnick. According to a local newspaper in Sussex, England – who compared the group to One Direction – in 2012, South4 even signed a £1 million record deal with record label Eagle Music and were preparing to release their first single, “Cougar Town”.

The band never seemed to make much of a mark, but their YouTube channel lives on, featuring a handful of behind-the-scenes clips, including Newton and co. rehearsing the choreography for the play “Cougar Town”.

Newton’s boy band may not have taken off, but South4 still have at least one big fan among them Bridgerton honor.

“A few years ago I found out Luke was in a boy band and I just thought it was the best thing ever,” singer Nicola Coughlan told PEOPLE last month.

She also described how she played a prank on Newton while filming the third season of the hit Netflix drama, replacing the music in one of the Bridgertondance scenes with the song South4.

“It was so strange because I could feel it as a strange energy. I could feel people looking over my shoulder and I wondered, are people nervous about me dancing? Because I’m completely fine, we’ll get through it,” Newton told PEOPLE. “And then [the song] he attacked the speakers and all the dancers…”

“All the dancers are off, everyone’s cheering,” Coughlan interjected.

“That scene will always remind me of that [prank]”, added Newton.

2nd part of BridgertonThe third season of the series was released on June 13. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series — as well as its spinoff, Queen Charlotte: The Bridgerton Story — are now streaming on Netflix.
