Brenda Song Says Suite Life of Zack & Cody Set Was a ‘Safe Space’ for Her as a Child Actor as Series Turns 20 (Exclusive)

Twenty years after the announcement, the Song brand still has dear memories of work on Disney Channel Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

On the eve of the milestone of the show on March 18, Running point Actress, 36, talked to people solely about playing fans of the favorite Heiress London Tipton Hotel and how her early Disney days, as a children’s star, set a trajectory until the end of her career.

“I wouldn’t sit here without that role-this show and that role has opened so many opportunities and so many doors for me Post-Disney,” she says. “I’m so incredibly grateful.”

Growing up in the spotlight, Song says she and her fellow actors, including Ashley Tisdale and Cole and Dylan Sprouse, in a special way connected during eight years when they were shooting a show and her Spinoff, Apartment’s life on deck.

As a children’s star, Song adds that another thing that was so significant about the series that she felt comfortable on the set.

“Being on that show was really special because I could go every day, knowing that I was in a safe space, that I was doing something I could only dream of,” she says. “Get into the most religious shoes every day and play your dream character and have fun, but still be able to be a child while doing it.”

In the midst of her entertaining experiences, she adds that the show also prepared her for acting as an adult, saying that she had learned early “working ethics by a 30-year-old woman” as a teenager.

“I feel like it just sets me up for so many things in my life that I feel I didn’t go through it I couldn’t handle it as I did because of that,” he adds. “It was such a nice experience.

Referring to the influence that her London character had on young women who grow up, especially the young Asian women who saw on the screen, Song says he still sees cracks today.

“Looking back at that, I just feel really grateful to be a part of it,” she says, adding that now he sees first-hand that this influence from the first niece sees that her 6-year-old niece is watching the show for the first time.
