Brian Wilson's Daughters Say He's 'Doing Great' as Beach Boys Documentary Launches: 'He's a Survivor'

Brian Wilson’s family is staying positive.

On Tuesday, May 21, at the world premiere of the new Disney+ documentary The Beach Boysthe “Good Vibrations” artist’s daughters Carnie and Wendy Wilson — with whom he shares ex-wife Marilyn Wilson — have been open about their father’s health.

“He’s doing great! He’s doing great. He’s in physical therapy every day. I cook for him, now he spends a lot of time with his kids, his family,” said Carnie (56). Party tonight at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre. – I am so happy that he is here tonight.

Wendy, 54, said of his condition: “I think he’s doing very well under the circumstances he’s going through now.”

She added: “But, you know, he’s a survivor. That’s my dad. He’s a very tough, very strong person. So yeah, I’m glad he’s coming tonight and I think he’s going to really enjoy it.”

Wilson, 81, made his first red carpet appearance since a judge granted him custody earlier this month on Tuesday, May 21, at the premiere of the upcoming doc.

In February, Wilson’s family filed for his guardianship, shortly after the legendary musician’s wife, Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, died at the age of 77 on January 30, 2024. The couple married in 1995.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the “Kokomo” musician suffers from a “neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia)” that inhibits his ability to properly care for himself.

Brian Wilson’s family is seeking custody of the Beach Boys legend following the death of his wife

“This decision has been made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes in the household and that Brian and the children living at home will be cared for and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the home. who have been there for many years and help take care of the family,” the press release said.

Wilson’s longtime business manager LeeAnn Hard and manager and publicist Jean Sievers were approved as co-conservators in a May 9 court filing, as PEOPLE previously reported.

In addition, Wilson’s children – Carnie, Wendy, Dakota Rose, Dylan, Delanie Rae, Dash and Daria – must also be consulted “regarding all material health care decisions.”
