Bride Is Fired on Her Wedding Day via a Text Message from Her Boss: 'I Just Gasped'

The bride received disturbing news on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life.

While enjoying her wedding with her loved ones in Cypress earlier this month, the UK woman checked her phone and was shocked to see a WhatsApp message from her boss, letting her know that her employment had been terminated.

The bride shared her story with popular YouTuber Ben Askins, explaining that her boss – and other colleagues – knew it was the day she was getting married.

“AND [my boss] she began with a text message, ‘I hope your wedding day went well and you had a great time,’ the bride told Askins.

She then continued to read the rest of the message, “I just wanted to let you know that the decision has been made to unfortunately let you go. An email has been sent to your personal email address detailing this. I’m really sorry it didn’t work out and I wish you all the best best in the sequel.”

Askins chimed in and said he was stunned by his boss’s inexplicable decision to fire the bride on such an important day in her life.

“I just don’t know what to say to that because it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever heard because it was supposed to be one of the best, most amazing days ever. And they did it,” he said.

The bride went on to tell how she had the first inkling that everything was not right. “I didn’t have my phone on me at all during it [ceremony] and only when I sat down [later] and I thought, ‘I have a lot of good wishes to fulfill’. And the first thing I noticed was that I was blocked and removed from everyone [company’s] WhatsApp groups,” she recalled. “I thought, ‘Oh, what’s going on here?’ ”

“And then I saw [my boss’] message and all my friends are [sitting] around me and I was just panting. So of course the next thing you’re going to do is go check your email,” she continued.

In the official termination email, she was informed that she was losing her job because her “performance did not meet the expectations we require for the role.”

However, the bride explained to Askins that she was never given any indication that her performance was not up to par and said she suspected the company had been planning to fire her for some time.

“They recently hired someone to our team, what [now in hindsight] I think it was just my replacement the whole time,” she explained, noting that the new hire started on the same day she got married when she was away.

The bride told Askins she felt “really angry” about the way her former employer handled the situation. “I think it was kind of a cowardly way for them to do it while I wasn’t there. They had a chance to do it in person,” she said.

Askins agreed, repeating, “It’s one of life’s great moments and they took that moment away from you. … Nobody deserves that.”

Now, instead of enjoying this new chapter of her life with her partner, the bride has been busy looking for a new job. “All I did was apply for jobs,” she said.

In the comments section of Askins’ YouTube video, people offered their condolences to the newlywed, including someone who happened to be a guest at her wedding.

“I was front row at this s— show. I ruined her day. I was so mad at the couple. She got glowing feedback while working and then this on her wedding day,” they wrote.

Another person commented: “Wow!! And I thought it was bad when my boss texted me on my wedding day asking me to do the invoice (because most brides bring a laptop on their wedding day).”

“The timing of the message was deliberately chosen to cause maximum upset,” chimed in another viewer. “It’s much better for the bride to be outside.”
