Brittany Cartwright Admits She Struggles to 'Be in the Same Room' as Ex Jax Taylor

Brittany Cartwright shares an update on where she stands with her ex Jax Taylor amid their split.

In her episode from May 24 When reality hits with Jax and Brittany podcast, the Valley star, 35, told guest Tom Schwartz that she and Taylor, 44, are “not great” at the moment.

“Right now, I can’t be in the same room with him for long,” she said. “The last time you were here, I was fine… You were like, I forgot you were even apart. So it’s very up and down.”

When Schwartz, 41, suggested the former couple do a “good job” respecting each other’s boundaries, she noted that her estranged husband “hasn’t done a good job respecting mine, that’s for sure.”

“But we have to remember, I’m the one who lives somewhere else and… I feel like I’m the one who takes all the hard blows even though I was the one who had to leave,” she explained.

Cartwright announced the news of their separation after four years of marriage in an episode of their joint podcast, When reality hitsin February.

“Jax and I are separating and I’ve decided to move into another home to take up some space for the benefit of my mental health,” she said at the time.

Brittany Cartwright Doesn’t Believe Jax Taylor Cheated, But Says ‘It’s Always, Always In The Back Of My Mind’

Cartwright told PEOPLE at the premiere of their Bravo show, Valleynext month that she “really had to withdraw from” the relationship.

“Once a woman reaches her firing point, it’s like, ‘It’s over.’ Something clicked in my head and I thought, ‘This is not good,'” she said.

She also noted that their three-year-old son, Cruz, is “the most important thing” to both of them as they spend time apart.

“I feel a little relieved,” Cartwright admitted. “I needed this space.”

Taylor similarly noted that separation was “best for [their] family” since he and Cartwright “have been going through some stuff for a while”.

“We decided to take a breather. I’m not sure what the future holds for this. But at this point this is just the best possible scenario, but this is not a publicity stunt,” he shared.

Despite the challenges in their relationship, Cartwright told PEOPLE in April that co-parenting has been going well for them so far.

“I think it was honestly better because we don’t fight in front of him,” she explained. “And for me, I think that’s what’s most important, right now. Because that’s why I had to get him out of that situation in the first place.”
