Brodha V is an Indian rapper, lyricist and music producer. Popular for creating music that stems from his personal experiences, Brodha V is considered one of India’s fastest rappers. He can rap in English, Hindi and Kannada. He is an Indian classically trained singer who has lent his voice to many raga-based classical and devotional songs.

Brodha V was born Vighnesh Shivanand on Tuesday, March 27, 1990, in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India (age 32; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Aries. He attended Bishop Cotton Boys School in Bangalore. He started rapping while studying in 12th standard and decided to take it as a career; however, his family did not support him as they did not see a fruitful rap career. They wanted him to choose a secure career and required him to pursue an engineering degree; however, he gave up his engineering studies midway. He later earned degrees in Recording Arts and Digital Filmmaking from SAE.

Brodha V got into rap with the song “Pettai Rap” from the 1994 Tamil film “Kadhalan”; the music of this song was composed by AR Rahman. It was the first movie he saw in a theater.

During his early years in rap, Vighnesh began frequently participating in “word wars” on Orkut, a social networking service at the time. In 2008, he discovered a forum on Orkut called “Insignia Rap Combat,” started by two rappers from Delhi, Speed Ice and D’Brassic. This helped him find the space to write about rap battles. After gaining some popularity in a rap battle on Orkut, he started writing his own songs.

Band: Machas With Attitude (MWA)
In 2008, he founded the hip-hop group “Machas With Attitude” (MWA) with two other rappers, Smokey the Ghost and Big Nikk. In the song “Dheaon Dheaon” from the 2011 film “Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge”, they collaborated with Raghu Dixit and sang rap verses. The team met Vishal Dadlani after winning the Radio City Freedom Award in 2013, who offered them to work on the Bollywood film “Chennai Express”. They collaborated on the song “Ready Steady Po” for the film, which helped them gain more fame in the music industry. In 2013, the band disbanded and continued his solo career.

In 2011, he released his first mixtape “Death Punch” as a solo artist. In 2012, he released the single “On My Own” with Avinash Bhat. In the same year, he released his second single “Aathma Rama”, which received 12 million views on YouTube. In 2013, he launched another single “After Party”, before releasing his single “Aigiri Nandini” in 2014 under the Sony Music India label; however, in 2015, he terminated it due to some differences contract.

In 2015, he collaborated with Anirudh Ravichander on the song “Shake That” from the film “Kaaki Sattai”. In 2018, he sang the song “Turn This Party Up” in the Telugu film Krishnarjuna Yudham. He played the lead role in the song “Padhe Padhe” from the 2019 Telugu film “Jersey”. Some of his other famous songs include “Let Em Talk”, “Way Too Easy”, “Vaishnava Jana To”, “Flex”, “Aaraam”, “Booyah For Your City” and “Alldivine”.

In 2015, he collaborated with singer Benny Dayal to release the song “Round Round”, which reached the top 10 of the Saavn charts. In 2017, Brodha V and singer Sanjeev T collaborated to spread awareness about congenital heart disease (CHD) by creating a song using real heartbeats; the song became part of the #GiveABeat initiative. In 2018, he released a song titled “Young and Restless” in collaboration with India’s Spykar Jeans. In 2019, Brodha V collaborated with rapper Raftaar to release the song “Naachne Ka Shaunq;” in which he rapped in English and Hindi. The song has received 47 million views on YouTube, making this collaboration a success. In the same year, he collaborated with clothing brand Puma to encourage Indian hip-hop music. In 2019, he released the song “Vainko”, a collaboration between the musical duo Naser Al Azzeh and Vineeth “Beep” Kumar, popularly known as Jordandian; the song performed well and garnered over 20 million views.

Brodha V, along with novelist, filmmaker and businessman Varun Agarwal and stand-up comedians Sanjay Manaktala and Sumukhi Suresh, among others, have produced the music for “Anu Aunty – The Engineering Anthem”, a parody of Iggy Azalea’s “Anu Aunty – The Engineering Anthem”.
