Welcome to The Blueprint, where we take apart the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and recreate them, piece by piece.
imam Endless love for raincoats, and now I’m freeing up closet space for another thanks to Brooke Shields.
On Jan. 6, the 59-year-old was spotted all wrapped up in New York City in a long white coat, which I was pretty happy — nay, ecstatic — to see. Why? The winter white shade was the reminder I needed that Au was okay not wearing a black jacket, which is common at this time of year.
Her coat also had a belt, so it looked flattering and shaped, and it was so stylish that I didn’t even want to ask what her outfit looked like underneath. She also wore a pair of winter-proof, camel-colored ankle boots with a chunky heel.

Other celebrities have also recently ditched the basic black coat: Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez have worn fur styles, while Taylor Swift and Katie Holmes have opted for soft details. As for winter whites, we spotted Meghan Markle and Lopez in a lighter color palette.

I spent a good part of December in Chicago and wore my classic khaki trench coat a lot more than my jumbo puffer. (I also got a cropped version over the holidays like Gwyneth Paltrow!) Now I see the versatility of white and I think I’ve pretty much settled on this one.
It has fun buckles on the wrists — a detail that mine lacks — while the belt is buckle-less unlike the Shields, which one customer said “tightens the waist easier.” It’s also made from a cotton blend fabric, which I like better than polyester, and comes in sizes S to XXL for more tailored or oversized fits.

And in case you need a reminder, clothes are meant to fit you and your lifestyle—not the other way around. For example, I don’t go to the office, so I don’t need a super smart coat. But if you do, a coat like this one is another way to personalize the trend.
Being quite clumsy, I’ll often choose off-white or light beige styles, so if I spill a coffee drop or two, it seems less noticeable.

These days it takes me a lot to wear heels, and you can usually find me in a pair of heels like these. They’re stable because they cover more ground—plus, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taylor Swift gave them the metaphorical thumbs up.
It’s hard to say how tall Shields’ boots were, but one thing is clear: they weren’t ankle boots. TL;DR: Taller pairs are what you want in the winter. They’re 38 percent off and feature a soft suede-like fabric. And according to one five-star reviewer, “The dropped look and pointed top add a chic, Western vibe that complements dresses and jeans alike.”
