Not to mention, motorsport is dangerous, and taking that risk and turning it into fair competition, friendship and the odd slice of glory is why we love to do it. OKCup shared a heartfelt note on social media, which read: “All of us at OKCup would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Tyson Jemmett and Brooklyn Horan, who tragically passed away following yesterday’s incident at the Rally of Northland. Tyson raced with us while the OKCup was 2kcup, driving a Honda. He was a fierce but fair competitor and finished as runner-up in the second season. Brooklyn was a young talent and a friend of some of our young OK Cup drivers. He was part of a family motorsport team, and now he’s going to be hurt in ways we can’t even imagine.”

At this time, Racing New Zealand, Toyota New Zealand and the close-knit Toyota 86 Championship racing community were deeply shocked and saddened to hear that Brooklyn Horan had passed away this weekend. He was an outstanding young talent with a very bright future in motorsport. His time competing in the 86 Toyota Championship was notable for his skill and speed on the track. MotorSport New Zealand rules say the Junior Driver Program “allows people aged between 12 and 16 the opportunity to obtain a competition license with a few additional steps”. MotorSport New Zealand has said it will co-operate with investigative agencies and will also undertake a thorough investigation into the matter.
