Jim Carrey will not reprise his role for Grinch Sequel despite reports, says actor’s rep

“Sometimes actors go through things that cause tremendous stress and you have to move forward,” Bryce said. “Jim Carrey on Grinchputting on makeup [was] so intense. They made him work with a Navy Seal to train him how to endure the torture because it was so intense for him.”

Bryce then added that Ron, now 69, “showed up on set” one day wearing Carrey’s “entire outfit.”

“[He was] like, listen, I was on a chair for six hours this morning too and I understand that it’s hell and I’m going to work like the Grinch today,” Bryce recalled.

Howard and Carrey’s efforts ended up giving them the Christmas classic in the 2000 film, which grossed roughly $346 million worldwide on a $123 million budget, according to IMDB Pro.

Carrey spoke about training to play the Grinch during an interview on Norton’s show in 2014, when he said that the make-up on the film was “like being buried alive every day”.

“The first day was eight and a half hours and I went back to the trailer and put my foot through the wall,” Carrey said. “And I told Ron Howard I couldn’t do the movie. Then [producer] Brian Grazer—the corrections man—came in and came up with the brilliant idea of hiring a gentleman who was trained to teach CIA operatives how to withstand torture.”

Carrey called the script “pretty funny”, noting that he had put on make-up “100 times” and was encouraged to eat everything in sight, change the patterns in his life, kick his leg and even “smoke as much as you can”. ”

“So I was the Grinch…with this huge cigarette butt to keep Jacob’s hair from catching fire. Green yak hair turned inwards. It was horrible. I just said, ‘It’s for the kids, it’s for the kids, it’s for the kids.’”
