Bryce Leatherwood Pays Homage to His Parents' Love Story in Touching Video for 'The One My Daddy Found' (Exclusive)

Bryce Leatherwood is a mama’s boy and damn proud of it.

“I just hope to find a woman like my mother,” Leatherwood, 24, tells PEOPLE as he travels to another date on his Neon Does tour. “[My mom] is an angel and I just want to find the kind of woman my dad found.”

This is the opinion that the native of Georgia expressed back in March 2023, while the winner of the 22nd season Vote found himself in the writing room with legendary songwriters Lynn Hutton and Chris Dubois.

“I just met a girl who I thought was everything in the world and still is,” explains Leatherwood. “When you get in a room to write, a lot of times you’re just talking about things in your life. So when I write with older guys who maybe have been doing it for a while, they give me their life wisdom.”

And the wisdom they shared that day was simple: They should have written “The One My Dad Found.”

“I think that [songs] the ones that just come out of thin air are the best,” explains Leatherwood, who released his debut single “The Finger” last year. “We wrote that song in the blink of an eye and it was one of my favorite songs ever written.”

Within the touching song, there are many lines that fully describe Leatherwood’s mother. “My mom knows how to take a boat down a ramp and she doesn’t mind a kiss on the cheek,” Leatherwood says with a laugh about the song’s lyrics.

Another delighted with how “The One My Daddy Found” turned out to be the girl who inspired him. “She’s a blessing in my life,” Leatherwood says of his girlfriend, whose identity he prefers to keep under wraps. “She brings a lot of happiness and a lot of peace to my life in a time where everything is crazy. This is a job I love to do, but she just calms me down. She gets my ass [church] pew, so that helps a lot too.”

And while the music video for “The One My Daddy Found” doesn’t feature Leatherwood’s mom or girlfriend, it does tell the story of his parents’ precious 25-year love story.

“The music video is based on the idea of ​​lasting relationships,” Leatherwood tells PEOPLE. “My inspiration was my mom and dad and I’m very happy that they are still together. Everyone wants a love that lasts and that was the vision for my first music video.”

And while Leatherwood says he’s not quite ready to share his girlfriend’s name with his “rabid” fan base, he appreciates the intense love they show him every time he takes the stage.

“The connection with your fans is literally the most important part of country music,” Leatherwood says. “I stayed for hours after the show signing things and interacting with the fans, giving them whatever they wanted. I think by giving back to your fans early, you’re going to create a big fan base that you’ll have for the rest of your life.”

Leatherwood also says she hopes to have her ex’s ex Vote coach Blake Shelton also in his corner for the rest of his life. But he doesn’t hold out hope that the two will be reunited anytime soon.

“I know I can’t get him to come to those shows,” Leatherwood admits with a laugh. “He’s too busy hunting and fishing! One day I asked him, ‘Do you ever want to write some poems?’ And he grabbed my shoulder and looked at me and said, ‘Son, I’m not going to be on my property doing absolutely nothing fun.'”
