News Caitlin Clark

During the Hawkeyes’ Final Eight game against Louisville on Sunday, an Iowa player made an incredible story. Clark became the first Division I basketball player in NCAA history to rack up 900+ points and 300+ assists in a season after scoring 15 of Iowa’s 25 points in the first quarter and dishing out four assists. Sports News reports that neither a woman nor a man has ever accomplished that feat in NCAA Division I basketball.

Averaging 26.9 points (third in the nation), 7.2 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game for Iowa in 2022-23, the junior guard had another breakout season. With two double-doubles in three NCAA Tournament games and a 31-point performance against Colorado to help the Hawkeyes clinch a berth in the Final Eight, he continued his impressive play.

After a strong first quarter against the Cardinals, Clark has now accomplished something that neither a man nor a woman has accomplished before in Division I basketball history. While he will be more concerned with getting Iowa to the Final Four, the individual honor more than deserves to be highlighted as the 21-year-old cements her place among the best in college basketball.
