A small business owner claimed Tesla left her California company “out in the cold” by allegedly canceling a large pie order at the last minute.
Voahangy Rasetarinera, who owns The Giving Pies in San Jose, said she was approached on Valentine’s Day by a Tesla representative about ordering thousands of mini pies from her company, according to NBC affiliate KNTV and CW affiliate KRON-TV.
“After I made the offer and received approval, I expected a smooth transaction,” Rasetarinera said in a post on The Giving Pies Facebook page.
However, when the payment “didn’t come through” on time, she “became worried”.

On February 19, Rasetarinera claimed that a Tesla representative contacted her and asked her to double the order. The rep reportedly apologized “because their seller didn’t pay on time, claiming they were new.”
“Despite the late hour and short notice, I consulted with my staff, who assured me that I could manage the extended order,” Rasetarinera wrote.
The order, which was for a Black History Month event, was worth $16,000, according to KNTV.

The next day, Rasetarinera said she “sent a revised invoice” to the company “requesting payment by noon to provide additional production resources.” However, when that deadline came and went, she was left “in a difficult position.”
Rasetarinera said the company was forced to turn down other Black History Month catering jobs to complete Tesla’s order, on top of buying inventory and preparing “for a demanding production schedule.”
At 2 p.m., Rasetarinera said she called a Tesla representative “just to get a voicemail.” She claimed she received a text message a few minutes later “CAUSEDLY informing me that the plan had changed and Tesla would no longer need the order.”
“This sudden turnaround has left me reeling, realizing the extent of the impact on my small business,” the business owner wrote. “I invested time, resources and effort based on Tesla’s assurances, only to be left in the dark.”

Rasetarinera said she contacted the representative again and “expressed her deep disappointment and the damage done to my business.”
“I have outlined how their actions have disrupted my operations, burdened my staff and tarnished my confidence in doing business with large corporations,” she added in a Facebook post.

Despite facing “temporary setbacks,” Rasetarinera said Tesla’s actions “will not stop me from following my passion and serving my community with integrity and pride.”
“And while the scars of this experience may remain, they serve as a testament to the strength and resilience of small businesses everywhere,” she concluded.
Rasetarinera claimed that Tesla offered “to fix it,” according to KRON-TV. But it is still “awaiting confirmation” from Tesla regarding the proposed make-up events. When the outlet reached out for comment, a Tesla spokesperson admitted they had been in contact with the company’s owner.
Neither Rasetarinera nor Tesla immediately responded to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
