Calista Flockhart Reveals She and Harrison Ford Play Practical Jokes on Each Other: ‘I’m Called the ‘Scare Monster’ in My House’

Even Indiana Jones gets scared from time to time by a plastic spider!

Calista Flockhart has revealed that she and husband Harrison Ford play pranks that include hiding the actors around the corners of their home and even using fake bugs to scare each other.

Talking to The New York Times59-year-old Ally McBeal The alum called herself a “fear monster” at home.

“Because I hide behind every corner,” she explained. “And so Harrison will come in, and then I’ll go ‘Raaah!’ And he’ll go, ‘W-uy-aah!’ And then I die laughing.”

“I’ll put a plastic spider in his big ice cube tray and then he’ll drink it,” Flockhart added of her scare tactics. “But then I’ll go to bed two weeks later and he’s out of town in Jackson, and I’ll pull off the covers and there’s this little rubber scorpion. It’s fun.”

Flockhart also shared that she and Ford, 81, are “very independent of each other in some ways” and “probably incredibly codependent on each other in others.” She said The New York Times that she’s “really happy to be at home” as a mother and that they “weren’t competing with each other,” citing that as one of the reasons their marriage worked.

Flockhart is the mother of 22-year-old Liam Flockhart Ford, whom she adopted a year before she met the actor.

“I think it scares him sometimes,” she said of her independence. “When I first met him, he said, ‘You’re the most self-sufficient woman in the world and I don’t know how I feel about that.’ I remember saying, ‘What are you talking about?’ Because I didn’t recognize that I was enough for myself.”

“The other reason it works is that we’re both quite introverted,” she added of her marriage. “We stay at home a lot, local people, which is nice.”

Ford and Flockhart married in 2010, eight years after meeting at the 59th Golden Globe Awards in 2002. Earlier this week, she spoke to Living with Kelly and Mark about discovering a softer side to her husband, who thanked her for his support during a speech at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards earlier this month.

“I dare say you’re discovering a soft, canine side of Harrison Ford that we mere mortals may not know exists,” Kelly Ripa said.

“He’s afraid of me,” Flockhart joked in response. “Just saying.”

“It’s an emotional thing,” she added of Ford’s latest recognition, a career achievement award. “You know, his work is so amazing and well-deserved. So yeah, I’m very proud of him and I’m happy for him.”
