His sudden departure is said to have shocked fellow cast members, especially since his character, Matthew Aylward, married Helen’s character, Trixie Franklin, earlier this year.

Olly, 36, was only informed by the scriptwriters last week that he would be leaving – as filming for the new series is already underway.

Yesterday, an insider said: “The news of Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.

“Everyone thought he was a mainstay in the show after his standout wedding scenes with Helen last season.

“Some think it’s a bit unfair, but everyone loves him.

“I felt like suddenly.

“Now there’s concern among the remaining cast that they don’t want to upset the production and people are keeping their heads down.”

In July, we revealed that Olly had broken up with make-up artist Natasha Fagri after seven years.

Helen (39) said in the same month that her relationship with partner Jack Ashton (36) was over.

A spokeswoman for the show declined to comment.

BBC bosses have ordered two more series.
