Call the Midwife star Laura Main shares heartfelt message to fans amid filming break on season 13

Call Midwife star Laura Main thanked fans for their support ahead of the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.

Taking to Instagram, the actress encouraged viewers to vote for the series, which received two nominations this year.

Not only is the series nominated in the ‘Returning Drama’ category, but fan favorite actress Judy Parfitt – aka Sister Monica Joan – is up for ‘Drama Performance’.

Sharing a photo of the cast from last year’s NTAs, Laura, who plays Shelagh Turner in the BBC period drama, captioned it: “Just a few hours left to vote for Call the Midwife and Judy Parfitt at the National Television Awards!

“Voting closes Tuesday September 5 at noon and I’ve put the link in my bio. Thank you to everyone who votes for Call the Midwife in the NTA Returning Drama category and gets our series shortlisted and entertained.”

She continued: “Here’s how much fun we had at last year’s event and we’re really looking forward to even more fun at this year’s ceremony. It’s such a great night to celebrate our performance, thanks to you. And this year raise a glass and celebrate the amazing Judy Parfitt, for a dramatic performance, and so he deserves.

“Please vote for her and CTM! Thank you!”

Fans expressed their love for the series in the comments section and shared well wishes for the cast and crew. One person wrote: “Already voted for Call the Midwife. Best show on TV and getting me through the long dark January!” while another added: “I just voted! Good luck and can’t wait for the new season! Y’all are amazing.”

Drama stars will be able to let their hair down at the NTAs, which will be held at the O2 Arena, on Tuesday night.

The prestigious awards ceremony will be a welcome break for the cast, who have been busy filming the show’s 13th season in recent months.

The production of the upcoming season started back in May and continued until the end of July, when the cast and crew took a well-deserved summer vacation.

The break in filming was announced on Instagram, with the crew explaining on social media that long days of filming and being away from family can take a toll.

“Filming days are long and hours are variable – sometimes the crew will have to shoot from early in the day until late at night to capture essential night scenes,” read the caption. “Weeks of this, away from family, can take a toll – so a good holiday in high summer gives the crew enough time to see their parents and go on holiday. The morale benefits – and for later work – are huge.”

While we don’t know when the cast will return to the set to film the second half of the series, we do know that filming will wrap up in November.
