The picture perfect shows a little owl, or Athena’s owl, perched on a dry wall in the idyllic Derbyshire Peak District village of Foolow on Friday.
Unlike other owls, the little owl can see colors and hunts both during the day and at night; this one seems to be watching the photographer.
The species can usually be found living on farmland, rural towns, and parks, often perched on fence posts or walls as it is waiting for prey.
You can spot owls by their striking yellow eyes and cream and brown spotted fur.
They feed mainly on moths, beetles, aphids and earthworms, but are at risk of becoming prey themselves.
Fortunately, the broad markings on the little owl’s back act like armor, deterring predators like sparrows and even other large owls.
Keen bird watchers should try to attract more wildlife to their yard this summer with these six inexpensive tricks.
The Sun recommends the best small changes you can make to feeding birds outside, although you’d love to see owls, especially the nocturnal species.
Little owls inhabit the warmer parts of Europe, so this one was probably seen after the recent heat wave in Britain.
It enjoyed stunning sunshine on Friday, with temperatures rising even higher over the weekend.
Today it will reach a warm temperature of 28°C in some areas, although there is still a risk of thunderstorms.
