Who is Carlee Russell?

Carlee Russell, a 25-year-old Alabama resident who was reported missing Thursday, returned home safely Saturday (July 15, 2023) evening, local police confirmed. In an interview Saturday night, Talitha Russell, Carlee Russell’s mother, said her daughter, known for her good-natured nature and bubbly personality, had a busy and eventful summer.

Carlee worked part-time at Woodhouse Spa in Birmingham and took nursing classes at Jefferson State Community College.

Carlee Russell found alive

Carlee Russell has been found. Her return marked the end of an extensive statewide search, which drew national attention and fueled speculation about the events that led to her disappearance. Until Sunday, the circumstances of her sudden disappearance remained unclear.

The incident took place on Thursday evening when Ms Russell contacted dispatch at around 9:35pm and informed them of the child. She also reached out to a family member to relay the same information. Mrs. Russell then pulled over on I-459 South near the 11 mile marker to check on the toddler, the Hoover Police Department reported.

Although the family member maintained open communication, they lost contact with Ms. Russell during the interaction. Upon arriving at the Hoover location, police discovered Ms. Russell’s vehicle and some of her belongings nearby. However, they were unable to find her or the child nearby, according to the police statement.

The Hoover Police Department has not received any missing child reports. Following her daughter’s revelation, Talitha Russell (Carlee’s mother) did not immediately respond to requests for an interview.

On Sunday afternoon, she released a statement on Facebook on behalf of her family, asking for privacy so they can support their daughter and each other with close family and friends. The press release states that the family was physically and mentally exhausted after three sleepless nights.

The sequence of events that led to the disappearance began on Thursday night after Ms Russell finished her shift at the spa at around 8.20pm. She then stopped at a Mediterranean restaurant to pick up chicken for her mother before heading home to Hoover.

While driving, she noticed what appeared to be a small child on the side of the interstate and immediately contacted dispatch, who instructed her to wait for the police to arrive. Ms. Russell also called her brother’s girlfriend, who remained on the line while Ms. Russell got out of the car and called for the child.

Although there was no answer, the girl heard Ms. Russell scream before the call was abruptly cut off, leaving only the background noise of passing vehicles, according to Talitha Russell.

After learning of the incident, Talitha Russell and her husband used the phone’s feature to locate Ms. Russell. They rushed to the spot on the interstate where they found their daughter’s car, with the driver’s side door open and the engine still running.

Ms Russell’s hat and wig were found on the ground next to the vehicle, while her phone was found in another nearby location, Talitha Russell said.

Police officers were already at the scene. While her family scoured other suburbs for her, police deployed drones that night to help search for Ms Russell.

Carlee Russell, who had just finished her shift at Woodhouse Day Spa in Summit and stopped for food at The Colonnade, was only 10 minutes from her home when she noticed the child.

Concerned for the toddler’s welfare, she stopped her car to check on the child and contacted a family member to share the situation. However, the family lost contact with Carlee Russell, although the phone line remained open.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Carlee Russell’s vehicle and personal belongings, but there was no sign of her or the child. It has been reported that no one has been able to explain Carlee Russell’s whereabouts between the time she left the restaurant and called 911.

Family and authorities gathered at the Hoover Met Friday morning to search for Carlee Russell, asking for the public’s help. Carlee Russell’s father, Carlos Russell, expressed their determination in the extensive search, stating that it will not stop them.

According to Carlee Russell’s parents, there is a report from a truck driver who claimed to have seen her car with its doors open as a gray vehicle pulled up in front of him. The Russells believe the child may have been used as a means to lure Carlee Russell from her vehicle, acting as bait.

On Thursday night, Carlee Russell called 911 around 9:35 p.m. to report seeing a child walking along the shoulder of I-459 South in Hoover, a suburb near Birmingham.

Concerned for the child’s welfare, Russell stopped her vehicle on the interstate to ensure the child’s safety. She also immediately informed her family members, telling the same details about the incident, according to police information.

According to police, a 911 call made by Russell Thursday night indicated the presence of a male toddler wearing a diaper. This report of a toddler was the only one involving a toddler received by the Hoover 911 dispatch center on Thursday.

Has Carly Russell been found?

Yes, Carly Russell has been found. One of the puzzling aspects of the case is the lack of reports from other drivers on the busy interstate, given that the sight of a toddler walking on the side of the road would likely have prompted more 911 calls, not just Ms. Russell’s.

“It’s a little unusual,” Chief Derzis commented on Saturday night, before Ms Russell’s revelation. The Hoover Police Department obtained traffic footage showing the moment Mrs. Russell activated her emergency tail lights on the interstate, called 911 about the child and stopped her red Mercedes-Benz, Chief Derzis explained.

The quality of the video was described as grainy, and investigators were working to improve its clarity. The video was published by Al.com on Saturday. Chief Derzis mentioned that, from the time Ms. Russell pulled over until the time the first officer arrived with lights flashing, there was no evidence of another vehicle being stopped or any similar activity.

An initial tip about a gray vehicle and a man standing in front of Ms Russell’s car was dismissed after reviewing the footage, the chief added.
