On Sunday afternoon, she released a statement on Facebook on behalf of her family, asking for privacy so they can support their daughter and each other with close family and friends. The press release states that the family was physically and mentally exhausted after three sleepless nights.
The sequence of events that led to the disappearance began on Thursday night after Ms Russell finished her shift at the spa at around 8.20pm. She then stopped at a Mediterranean restaurant to pick up chicken for her mother before heading home to Hoover.
While driving, she noticed what appeared to be a small child on the side of the interstate and immediately contacted dispatch, who instructed her to wait for the police to arrive. Ms. Russell also called her brother’s girlfriend, who remained on the line while Ms. Russell got out of the car and called for the child.
Although there was no answer, the girl heard Ms. Russell scream before the call was abruptly cut off, leaving only the background noise of passing vehicles, according to Talitha Russell.
After learning of the incident, Talitha Russell and her husband used the phone’s feature to locate Ms. Russell. They rushed to the spot on the interstate where they found their daughter’s car, with the driver’s side door open and the engine still running.
Ms Russell’s hat and wig were found on the ground next to the vehicle, while her phone was found in another nearby location, Talitha Russell said.
Police officers were already at the scene. While her family scoured other suburbs for her, police deployed drones that night to help search for Ms Russell.
