As a freshman, he assists in defeating Stanford and advancing to the final four of the College World Series. Close was selected in the seventh round of the 1986 MBL draft by the New York Yankees.
He previously played minor league baseball for the Oneonta Yankees (1986), Albany Colonie Yankees (1987-1988), Columbus Clippers (1988) and Calgary Cannons (1989-1990). Furthermore, he had his best season in Calgary, batting .330 with a .523 fielding percentage, 38 extra-base hits and 56 RBIs in 95 games.
He is one of baseball’s most successful and richest agents, representing some of the most famous players in major league baseball. He represents Derek Jester and was his agent for most of his career. After winning the 2006 National League MVP award, Ryan Howard hired Close as his agent in January 2007. Close has been involved in major transactions.
