Catherine Greiner News
Following concerns raised by the newly appointed NSW Minister for the Elderly, Mark Coure (pictured right), that the Council was “full” of Liberal Party allies under the previous head, the Advisory Council Ministerial Committee on Aging (MACA), which provides life advice after retirement and care for the aged is reportedly under review.
Last week, The Australian revealed that before NSW Premier Dominic Perottet (pictured left) reshuffled his cabinet in December 2021, Natalie Ward, who had been in office for seven months, he had replaced several council members with liberal loyalists.
MACA was established to advise the state government on the needs of older people in NSW. The presenter is Kathryn Greiner, former Retirement Villages Ambassador and former President of NSW Retirement Villages Sector Research. The program has not been restarted since Ms. Greiner’s term as ambassador ended in late 2020.
Sally Betts, a Liberal councilor for Waverley, Barbara Ward, deputy mayor of Ku-ring-gai, and Tony Virtue, a financial adviser and head of the Liberal Party’s men’s business arm, are among the allegedly dubious Liberal appointments. None of these people are listed on the MACA membership website.
According to the publication, Coure is considering expanding the board to rename some of the picks he was “furious” about after they were approved by Cabinet. Ms Ward, however, refuted claims that the new members lacked the necessary experience, stating that the current members of the Council had at least two previous terms.
