What is CFL football?
The CFL, short for the Canadian Football League, is Canada’s premier professional sports league dedicated to Canadian football. It is the highest level of competition in the country, and includes a total of nine teams representing cities across Canada. The CFL is divided into two divisions: the four-team East Division and the five-team West Division.
The CFL season consists of a 21-week regular season, where each team plays 18 games and has three off weeks. This exciting season usually starts in mid-June and ends in early November. After the regular season, the top six teams advance to the playoffs, which last three weeks and culminate in the much-anticipated Gray Cup championship game in late November.
The Gray Cup is not only a prestigious sporting event, but also a significant cultural phenomenon in Canada, attracting wide attention and viewership. The CFL was officially formed on January 19, 1958 by the merger of the Interprovincial Rugby Football Union, known as the “Big Four”, founded in 1907, and the Western Interprovincial Football Association, founded in 1936. Since then, the CFL has become a respected and integral part of Canadian sporting culture, showcasing the passion and skill of Canadian soccer players.
