His father, Captain Baldev Singh, was an army officer and former attorney general from Khair, Aligarh. His mother Krishna Kumari Devi was the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir of Orissa. He has two brothers namely Abhimanyu Raj Singh and Aditya Narain Singh; both are film producers. His younger brother Abhimanyu Raj Singh is often confused with Indian actor Abhimanyu Singh.
