When he was a teenager, he married a girl from his village and separated from her a year after the marriage. In 1997, while in Delhi, he met a local girl named Mamata. They fell in love with each other and got married. The couple has five daughters. In an interview, talking about Jha, Mamata said,
We had a love marriage. He is tall, handsome and very smart. He is 13 years older than me. His parents were both big shots, his father retired from the government and his mother a school teacher. I don’t know how much he studied, but he loved reading newspapers. “
Vegetable vendor turns into serial killer
After passing eighth grade, he decided to give up his studies and start earning money. He moved from his hometown to Delhi in search of a job. Then he started doing odd jobs, such as selling vegetables and plastics. He was not very popular in his first years in Delhi. He was once attacked by a mob from Delhi who stabbed him in the chest. His friends helped him and took him to a nearby hospital after tying a piece of cloth on his chest. Jia then decided to take karate lessons in self-defense, and he later killed the thug who attacked him. Sources revealed that at that time, the local police had demanded money from poor vegetable vendors in the market, and the trade union leaders of the market had also unfairly deducted the wages of the vegetable vendors. In 1998, Chandrakant protested against the unfair treatment of poor sellers by union leaders. A verbal fight between Jha and union leader “Pandit” (as he is known in the area) turned physical, during which Pandit was injured. Pandit took this as an insult and lodged a complaint against Jia with the local police station. He even dragged Jia’s wife during the incident and filed a complaint against her. Jia and his wife were arrested and sent to prison. In jail, a havardar named Balbir Singh tortured him cruelly and did not consider his pleas. Jia was even stripped naked in front of other prisoners.
This incident shocked Jha, who subsequently became convinced that violence was the only answer to injustice. This belief changed him completely, and he soon began to develop an aggressive, bad-tempered personality. According to reports, after the incident, he shifted his wife and daughter to other places and started living alone in JJ Colony in Hyderpur, Delhi. By then, Jha had started earning well, helping migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar find jobs and accommodation in Delhi. He used to feed them at home and take care of them like his own children, but he watched them closely and checked their activities. He often gets angry because of trivial things, such as eating meat, smoking, drinking, having an affair, etc. He lost his temper over these issues and ended up killing the guy (who was doing this activity). His first murder took place in 1998 when he killed Mangal alias Aurangzeb in Adarsh Nagar. He was even arrested for this, but was released in 2002 due to lack of evidence. A year later, he killed a friend named Shekhar due to drinking. After the murder, he dumped the body somewhere in Alipur, Delhi. In November 2003, he killed another friend named Umesh. Jha thought Umesh was lying and betraying, for which he killed him. He threw Umesh’s torso near Gate 1 of Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
According to Jha, he wanted to challenge the Delhi Police and so he did so. He murdered Guddu in November 2005 for smoking ganja and dumped the body near Sulabh Sauchalya in Mongol Puri, northwest Delhi. In October 2006, he killed Amit (one of his accomplices) for being lecherous. He threw his torso in front of Tihar jail. In 2007, he murdered Upender (for having an affair with Jha’s daughter) and Dalip (for eating meat). According to media sources, he once cut off the heads, limbs and genitals of his victims and dumped them across Delhi just to confuse the Delhi Police. He even stuck a note on the body to challenge the Delhi Police. The notes read,
Until now I have been facing a private case, but this time I really committed murder. You’ll never catch me and I’m not afraid to open a case. If you can catch me in this murder, then catch me and show me, your father and brother-in-law, CC. “
He reportedly followed the same pattern in all of his murders. He would often kill his accomplices after 8pm and eat where the bodies were lying, with their blood splattered on the floor. He often threw the heads of his victims into the Yamuna river as he thought it would bring them relief. From 1998 to 2002, Chandrakant was arrested several times by the local police, but was released due to insufficient evidence. Nearly six years later, he was arrested by Delhi police with evidence after posting about his last murder. A Delhi Rohini court found him guilty of three murders and sentenced him to a fine of Rs 20,000 and death. Jha told the court hearing that he had no regrets about the murders, which were retaliation against him by the Delhi police for mistreating him and punishing him for his crimes, which he had never done. He also said that he has become a corpse-killing master. In 2016, a Rohini court in Delhi commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment.
A Delhi Police official said in an interview,
Jia had some psychological issues that led him to commit such a heinous crime. Jha’s first mistake was writing a letter to the police after leaving the torso of the fourth victim (Amit) in front of Tihar on October 20 last year. In his letter, Jha accused former Deputy Commissioner Manish Agarwal and Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh of forcing him to face investigation. To crazy killings. In the letter, Jha also admitted that he had committed murder in November 2003 and dumped the body near Tihar. It turns out that by November 2003, he had left Tihar, so we had to look for someone who had stayed there before 2003. “
They further shared how Jia was captured,
Jha also made another mistake by calling the Hari Nagar SHO immediately after dumping the body on October 20 last year. We make sure that the SHO talks to the killer for as long as possible and gets more clues. The conversation lasted seven minutes. Our next clue was to compare the handwriting on the note found with the bodies and handwritten statements of outsiders. We suspect Jha is the killer, but the hard part is determining where he is hiding because he changes addresses every two weeks. We know of at least four hideouts: Yamuna Vihar, Alipur, Badola village and Haidarpur. Our last clue was that he was driving a rickshaw with a motorcycle attached to it. We searched four places and finally found him in Alipur, where he was eating halwa with his children. “
