Chappell Roan Cancels 2 Festival Appearances to 'Prioritize My Health': 'Things Have Gotten Overwhelming'

Chappell Roan has pulled out of two upcoming festival shows, citing the need to look after her mental health.

“Good luck, baby!” the singer, 26, was scheduled to perform at both dates of the All Things Go music festival in New York on Sept. 28 and in Columbia, Md., on Sept. 29.

But on Friday, September 27, she announced on Instagram that she would no longer be performing, as the pressures amid her meteoric rise to fame were “immense”.

“I apologize to the people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I can’t perform. Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks and I can really feel it,” Roan wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Right now I feel pressured to prioritize many things and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best possible performances. Thank you for your understanding. I’ll be back soon xox.”

Chappell Roan says she might quit if fame ‘gets dangerous’: ‘That part is not what I signed up for’

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the All Things Go festival said it’s important for fans “to remember that health and well-being always come first.”

“All Things Go strongly supports artists who prioritize their well-being and we ask our community to rally around Chappell Roan with love and understanding,” the statement said. “Let’s keep showing the world that music fans don’t just support the art, they support the artists themselves.”

Chappell Roan shares raw videos rightfully slamming fans for ‘creepy behavior’: ‘I’m allowed to say no’

“I’m very sorry and very disappointed 🙁 I promise I’ll be back,” she wrote at the time. “My heart is broken 💔 thank you for your understanding.”

The singer-songwriter — fresh off winning Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards — has been open in recent months about her struggles with the spotlight, and in an interview with Face earlier this month she said she “might quit” the music industry if it becomes too much.

During the interview, she recalled an encounter with two male fans at the airport who followed her to TSA and verbally harassed her, asking her to sign photos.

“I’m just like, ’What the hell is going on?’ ” she told the paper. “I told myself, if this ever gets dangerous, I might as well quit. It’s dangerous now, and I’m still going. But that part is not what I signed up for.”

She added that she finds fame “offensive”.

“The atmosphere of this — stalking, talking s— online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public – is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband,” Roan explained. “That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know she would feel this bad.”

The star went viral in August when she posted an emotional plea on TikTok asking fans to respect her privacy.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is a normal thing for people who are famous or not famous,” she said. “I don’t care if it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy behavior comes with the job, [or] the career field I chose. That doesn’t make it OK. That doesn’t make him normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. Doesn’t mean I like it.”
