Charlie Puth, Zedd and More Stars React to Liam Payne's 'Heartbreaking' Death: 'Can't Believe This Is Real'

Tributes have been pouring in for Liam Payne following the news of the singer’s death at the age of 31.

The former One Direction member died after falling from several floors at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday, October 16. He is survived by his son Bear Grey, 7.

Charlie Puth expressed his condolences on Instagram. “I’m in shock right now. Liam was always so nice to me. He was one of the first big artists I worked with. I can’t believe he’s gone…” he wrote in his first Instagram Story. Puth, 32, also shared a video of the two laughing and added the caption, “I’m so upset right now, may he rest in peace.”

In another Instagram Story, he included a screenshot of Payne discussing how Puth wrote the song with him. Underneath the photo, Puth wrote, “I’m so sorry.” Puth also captioned the couple’s Instagram post.

Payne’s “Get Low” collaborator Zedd mourned the singer on Xu (formerly known as Twitter). “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking,” he wrote.

“So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne’s death😢. Sending my love and condolences to his family and loved ones. 🙏. RIP my friend🥺,” Paris Hilton wrote on X.

Ty Dolla $ign added a photo of Payne to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “Just talked to you 2 days ago man. Miss u fr fr sucio💔💔.”

EL James, author of the book Fifty Shades of Grey book series, mourned the late singer on X. (Payne collaborated with Rita Ora on the franchise third meal, Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack in 2018) “Heartbroken to hear of the tragic death of Liam Payne. I can hardly believe it. My condolences to his family. 💔,” James wrote.

“RIP Liam Payne,,, too young 🙏🏾,” Flavor Flav said on X.

English television presenter Piers Morgan wrote, “My goodness… what a shocking tragedy” on X.

Singer Mabel also paid tribute to the late singer in her Instagram Stories. “LIAM & FOR SO MANY YEARS I ALWAYS KNEW I COULD CALL YOU FOR SUPPORT AND BIG BROTHERLY ADVICE, BUT NOW YOU’RE GONE…”, she wrote. “MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH LIAM’S FAMILY AND FRIENDS YOU WILL BE MISSED GREATLY DURING THIS TIME.”

One Direction’s Liam Payne has died aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina

“My condolences to everyone who, like me, grew up listening to 1D and cultivated so many good times with their music. It’s so sad that all this 🙁 doesn’t seem real,” wrote Brazilian actress and singer Maisa Silva on X.

Several former X-Factor contestants paid tribute. “RIP Liam Payne 💔 condolences to friends and family,” X-Factor Season 6 contestants Irish music duo John and Edward Grimes wrote on X.

Season 9 contestant Rylan Clark wrote: “Extremely sad news. V tragic and so young. RIP Liam x.” Season 9 winner James Arthur posted a photo with Payne on his Instagram stories.

None of Payne’s One Direction co-stars have yet publicly reacted.
