However, the police detained her, confiscated her phone and arrested her for conspiracy to disturb the public. She was then released after five hours without any proceedings or charges against her.
This was not an isolated phenomenon. A day earlier, photographer Tom Bowles and cameraman Rich Felgate said they were detained by police for 13 hours for filming the demonstration. Although they had press cards with them, they were also handcuffed, their equipment was taken away and they were taken to the police.
Hertfordshire Police Chief Constable Charlie Hall responded to claims of a crackdown on the free press by noting there were mechanisms in place to assess their stance on demonstrations.
